Uber Sells SE Asia Operations to Grab

The writing was on the wall for this for a while. Last month in Mexico I gave a talk on the impact that culture can have on entrepreneurship and I actually used the example of Uber vs Grab in the SE Asian market where lack of local cultural insight was killing Uber. (This is after their 2016 retreat from China).

Losing around $1Bn a quarter, the deal was signed on the 25th March to sell all of Uber’s SEA operations (including Ubereats) to Grab in return for a 27.5% stake and a place for Uber’s CEO on the Grab Holdings board.

Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) Anniversary

20180316_113903.jpgIt would be extremely remiss of me if I didn’t offer my thanks to Executive Director Dr. Jaime Montoya for inviting me to participate in the 36th Anniversary of the PCHRD in Manila recently. The theme this year was “Social Innovations in Health” and the keynote was presented by Dr. Bernadette Ramirez, World Health Organization’s (WHO) scientist and herself a local Filipina.

My special appreciation to my good friends Professor Nilo Bugtai from DLSU and Merlita Opeña from the PCHRD for hosting me – I’m looking forward to returning the hospitality in Australia soon!

Changi Airport in Singapore has held onto the top spot in Skytrax’ “Best Airport” survey for the 6th year running – incidentally, the only airport to do this since the annual survey began in 1999.

Asian airports dominated the top rankings, taking out 6 of the top 10 spots, with Munich, Heathrow, Zurich, and Frankfurt also in the mix. (Heathrow? Really???).

On 16-18 March 2018, the Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon.
